Save on Close Summer Travel

Looking for a quick place to travel that won’t break the bank with flight prices and expensive hotels? Here are a few suggestions:

Farm Life

I took our family to The Farm, LLC in the Kentucky. It was a blast. I had no idea what to expect and found a great deal on Groupon. We went over the last fall break, and personally I think the best time to go would be fall or spring/summer. The rooms are wonderful – all set in a gorgeous farm house (ours had a huge garden tub, shower, flat screen TV – but still had the farm feel). The price of the room includes a delicious farm fresh breakfast each morning (pretty sure that was my favorite part) – where you can join others staying at the house as well. Price also includes a couple of activities: making butter, collecting eggs, and a tour of the farm and animals. You get to feed the animals, brush the small horses. The owners also own a farm fresh restaurant you can go to for dinner. You can go into town (a very small town) and find a few things to do. We went bowling, had ice cream, ate dinner lunch and dinner – but we spent most of our time at the farm. We stayed two nights and it seemed like the perfect amount of time.

Speaking of Groupon…

I find a LOT of great, close travel deals on Groupon. You really should check it out. You can find hotels for great prices, and find out about places you never knew existed!

Brown County

We recently went to Brown County and stayed at the lodge. It was really enjoyable. The lodge has an updated indoor water park area (good for rainy or chilly days) and a good restaurant! There are also hiking trails right outside of the lodge (making it very convenient for families with small children). You can do ziplining, horseback riding, and stop at areas that overlook the beautiful scenery. My favorite part was going into town for food, ice cream and local shopping. Great stores and atmosphere!

Cincinnati Area

Cincinnati is not a far drive, and there are a TON of kids things to do there! The Newport on the Levee area is great – lots of shops, things to do, a riverboat ride, and of course the aquarium. You can always catch a Cincinnati Reds game, go to the zoo, EnterTRAINment Junction (for those obsessed with Thomas or trains in general), Kings Island, and more!
